The Devil Is In The Details

When you go out to an event, you take the time to choose the perfect attire and complementing accessories that make you look and feel like a million bucks. Sometimes, your accessory choices even become the personality of the outfit. When putting together an event, the same approach applies.

When picking the perfect outfit you want to wear, you start with a blank palette. A lot of considerations go into putting together the outfit - the type of event, the dress code, the weather, time of event, where it is, the surface you’ll be walking on, and more. When applied to events, accessorizing is finishing the look by layering in colors, texture and shape. The way you finish a setting reflects your style philosophy and pulls all the décor choices throughout your event together.

When designing an event, it is interesting because you get to play with blank palettes and accent them to complete the perfect setting or on the flipside, you may have a very colorful palette and keep the additions to a minimum, either way, accessories still add the finishing touch.

devil-detailsThere is a reason that we say, “it’s all in the details.” Accessorizing is important as they give your space that extra flair, whether it is adding accent pillows, a rug, a throw, an ottoman with a beautiful tray on top, - the detail elements definitely change or create the ambience of the space and make it more interesting. For one of our networkers, (thank you for the picture, NEOART photography.com), we used patterned pillows, rugs, lamps, and hex tables to create an interesting shape as well as floral in contrasting colored vases to make them really stand out. Take away the accessories, which mean, texture, color and pattern, and you can see how the setting could be very bland. Instead, it is rich with “personality and flair.”

Keep your guests intrigued with your esthetic choices by adding perfect and balanced complements to the space, whether it is adding many elements to “fill” space or by just simply adding one pillow for a touch of color.

Here are few “finishing” tips to get you started:

  1. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns; design is not a straight line for one to follow, its being able to have the creativity and being able to run with it.
  2. Don’t over accessorize. The trend today, is that less is more. A few small items can make a great impact. Strike a balance.
  3. Thoughtfully pull from colors or patterns that are consistent throughout the event and integrate touches of them into the space. Pull small pieces of greater design elements onto table tops and furnishings.
  4. Contrasting colors and shapes make a big splash. Step outside the proverbial box and try different combinations. Be bold and adventurous in your approach.
  5. Make sure to set aside a portion of your budget for accessorizing. It’s an important and often overlooked item in a budget. A finished room will always look more professionally designed than one missing “the details.”

By following these simple tips, your style will come charging through vividly, and your guests will notice the effort that you put forth to design and create a beautiful, balanced and well-accessorized event.
